UNOFFICIAL MATCH BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND TURKEY VOLLEYBALL TEAMS IN BAKU
On September 5, the first match between Azerbaijan and Turkey women’s national volleyball teams took place in the gym of Volleyball Federation of Azerbaijan. As known, coach of the Turkish national team turned to his Azerbaijani colleague to play two unofficial matches. Leadership of the fraternal team considers these matches as a preparation stage for the European championship to be held in Turkey, while coach of the Azerbaijani team - as next preparation stage for the Olympic licensing tournament to be held in January 2004 in Baku.
Since the first minutes, there was a very stiff atmosphere in the match. By the end of the first set Azerbaijani girls took the lead and won 25:17. The second set was also gained by Azerbaijani squad scoring 25:21. In the third set, guests performed well especially in blocks and secured the score 25:21. The fourth set began with a stiff fight. At first Turks were leading but Azerbaijanis managed to won the final set 26:24. Thus, the first match was won by Azerbaijani national team scoring 3:1.
