US DEEMS BAKU ITS CLOSE FRIEND
The Minister congratulated the Ambassador with his new appointment, wished a successful mission, press service of the Ministry reported.
Colonel-general Safar Abiyev in connection with the anniversary of the 11 September events expressed to the Ambassador and families of the killed condolence and noted that the people of Azerbaijan was side-by-side with the American people, and it is today with the Americans and will be forever.
Then, the Minister, touching upon the crucial problem for Azerbaijan - the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict, said: “We are surprised that the world community hitherto did not name Armenia as an aggressor state, and the UN Security Council does not demand from Armenia fulfillment of the four resolutions adopted on bound with this conflict”.
Ambassador Harnish, congratulating colonel-general Safar Abiyev for warm reception, said: “First of all, I would bring to your notice that the America n nation wishes quick recovery of your President. Secondly, the people of America today do not forget the 11 September events and I am grateful to you that You commemorated the killed. The 11 September events much more strengthened decisiveness of the American people in combat against international terrorism. We highly assess efforts of our friends, including Azerbaijani state, in this cause. Attendance of the Azerbaijani detachment in Afghanistan is an evidence to support of Azerbaijan of America in combat against international terrorism. The united States deem Baku its close friend…”
Touching upon the issue of settling the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, R. Harnish said: “Current year, for objective reasons, there was no move in settlement of the conflict. The United States, it appears, also Azerbaijan, suggest that we can move ahead in solution of the problem. The US, as a co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group, will make its contributions to the settlement of the conflict.”
Then, colonel-general Safar Abiyev and Ambassador Reno Harnish held had exchange of views on current military-political situation in the South Caucasus region and Azerbaijani-American links, including military ties.
