US EMBASSY SUPPORTS ACTIVITY OF PEACE CORPS
“USA Embassy in Baku supported the offer on beginning of the activities of the American organization Peace Corps in Azerbaijan and will be further supporting all exchange programs in the field of education”, Charge d’Affaires of the United States in Azerbaijan, Nancy Mckeldawny said at a recently held news conference.
According to her, 30 Peace Corps volunteers are to arrive in Azerbaijan and by the end of 2004, this number will reach 100.
Activities of Peace Corps are not related to military field, it is dealing with study of English by means of young volunteers from the USA, she said. “They will live in Azerbaijani families, study traditions and habits of the nation, teach English to schoolchildren as local teachers”, she added.
Besides, it was pointed out that the list of regions of the republic where representatives of the Corps will be placed has been already fixed.
