WORKING VISIT OF PRIME MINISTER ILHAM ALIYEV TO NEW YORK
INTERVIEW OF PRIME MINISTER ILHAM ALIYEV WITH JOURNALISTS
Q: How do you appraise the results of today’s meetings?
A: I appraise these meeting very well, especially the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Mr. Harrazi. We touched upon many issues, exchanged our views on matters of mutual interest. The relations between our countries are currently at the high level. Especially, after the official visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Iran, promotion is being observed in different fields. We are very much pleased with the developing cooperation in power energy exchange. We would like to further expand this cooperation. The negotiations on determination of the legal status of the Caspian are going on. I am confident we will have results very soon.
Q: You are going to make a report on September 24 at the General Assembly. Can you tell us about main issues of the report?
A: Of course, you will learn better about it tomorrow. The main issue is that of Azerbaijan’s most painful problem, the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno Karabakh. This is the most important issue for Azerbaijan. We are confident that the UN Organization, the organization that passed four resolutions on the issue, will further strengthen its efforts. Anyway, we want to believe in that. It is true, they did not produce any influence in practice, the aggressor-country did not pay any attention to them. However, there are international law norms. If this Organization has passed these resolutions, it should make an effort for them to work.
Q: Mr. Prime Minister, you should have received information from Cleveland before coming here. Do you have any news?
A: Yes, I was in contact. Moreover, today, I have talked to them. Recovery process is going on successfully. Within a few days, I will go to Cleveland myself and meet with Mr. President.
