A short journey through the century-long history of the Railway VIDEO
Baku, July 3, AZERTAC
AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” feature: The next destination is the Azerbaijan Railway Museum.
The Azerbaijan Railway Museum is located in the Sabunchu station building (near the 28 May metro station), one of the three buildings comprising the historical station complex of the Baku Passenger Station.
This building was commissioned on July 6, 1926.
The building was constructed based on the national architectural traditions of Azerbaijan and is reminiscent of the Palace of the Shirvanshahs due to its appearance and many elements.
The building’s windows, crafted in the style of national shabaka art, the decor from the Shirvanshahs period on the upper part of the entrance facade, and the stone carvings of lions on the clock tower are notable.
The halls display various interesting exhibits demonstrating the stages of development of Azerbaijan’s railway sector, particularly photo and video materials depicting the history of the railway’s creation in the 19th century, and train models.
The museum has 2 exhibition halls, a cinema hall, and halls for organizing cultural and corporate events.
A photo corner dedicated to the incomparable contributions of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to the development of Azerbaijan’s railway sector was also created.
President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the museum on November 19, 2019, following its reconstruction.
