AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column turns its focus to the Imarat Complex in the city of Aghdam.
The Imarat Complex in Aghdam is one of Garabagh’s most important historical and architectural monuments. Covering an area of 3.3 hectares, the complex includes the Palace of Panahali Khan, the founder of the Garabagh Khanate, along with other historical structures, mausoleums, a historic cemetery, and an equestrian complex dedicated to showcasing Garabagh horses.
Located within the Imarat Complex are the mausoleums over the graves of Panahali Khan; Ibrahimkhalil Khan, who ruled the khanate during various periods; his son Mehdigulu Khan, the last ruler of Garabagh; as well as the grave of Mehdigulu Khan’s daughter, the prominent poet and artist Khurshidbanu Natavan.
The Imarat Complex is one of Aghdam’s main tourism sites, reflecting the region’s cultural and historical potential. It offers visitors the opportunity to closely familiarize themselves with Garabagh’s rich history, architectural traditions, and cultural heritage.
