AZERBAIJANI-FRENCH RELATIONS DEVELOPING
Ziyafat Asgarov greeted the guest and said that the relations established between Azerbaijan and France long ago are currently developing.
He pointed out a special role of the President of Azerbaijan and agreements and documents signed by the President during his visit to France, which give an opportunity to development of these relationships in all fields.
Further, Ziyafat Asgarov informed the guest about laws adopted by the Milli Majlis related to security and defense. Touching upon the problems of terrorism, Asgarov said that Azerbaijan realizes the danger of this phenomenon better than other states. Until today, Azerbaijan has suffered from 373 terrorist attacks, resulted in victims among civilians. Since 1988, Armenia having territorial claims to Azerbaijan, has occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands. Despite of the fact that the UN Security Council passed four resolutions on this issue, they have not been realized. The OSCE Minsk Group dealing directly with this conflict, and France is one of its cochairmen, has not reached any success for 10 years. Azerbaijan wants to resolve this conflict peacefully, but Armenia does not give up its invasion policy. It is explained by the fact that international organizations and big countries have not expressed their strict position related the aggressor.
Mark Babue expressed gratitude for warm reception and said that he has just been appointed to this position. The main aim of his visit to Baku is to negotiate on the upcoming perspective of the relations between the two countries.
France is interested in developing its relations with Caucasian countries and Azerbaijan among them, he said and wished the soonest resolution of Nagorno Karabalkh conflict peacefully.
In conclusion, the parties shared their views on issues of mutual interest.
