AZERBAIJAN WILL NOT ALLOW ILLEGAL “KARABAKH TELECOM” TO OPERATE
Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov told AzerTAj that expanding of geographic scope of the roaming operations by the illegally operating Karabakh Telecom, a cellular provider in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, has caused government’s right discontent. In this connection, the Ministry is now in correspondence with the GSM Association, he said. According to him, considering the claims of the Azerbaijani Government, the Association excluded the Karabakh Telecom from its membership in July 2004, but the Armenians have appealed under the items 6.10 and 6.4 of the GSM statute to all mobile providers for restoration of the membership in the Association. It is enough for them to win 71 votes to have a chance to rejoin the Association, he said. The Minister stated the Karabakh Telecom continues to break not only Azerbaijani but also international laws. The Government of Azerbaijan will not allow this to happen, and will do its best to this end, he said.
