Baku summons French chargé d'affaires over Senate resolution
Baku, November 16, AZERTAC
“On November 16, 2022, Julian Le Lan, the chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and was presented with a diplomatic note of protest regarding the resolution adopted by the French Senate on November 15, 2022,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told AZERTAC.
“At the meeting, it was brought to the attention that the completely false resolution reflecting false and slanderous provisions passed by the French Senate was strongly rejected by Azerbaijan.
It was stated that having the character of open provocation, the resolution adopted by the Senate demonstrates the biased and one-sided political position of France which allegedly intends to contribute to the peace process.
It was emphasized that this step of France aims to inflict a serious blow on the establishment of peace in the region, especially on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the basis of mutual recognition of and respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders, to which Azerbaijan insists, and encourages revanchist forces opposing peace in the region.
It was noted that being in violation of the norms and principles of international law, this resolution also completely contradicts the obligations under Article 2, Paragraph 3 of the Agreement on friendship, mutual understanding, and cooperation between Azerbaijan and France (1993).
At the meeting, the Azerbaijani side once again strongly demanded that France refrain from steps and statements against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan protected by international law, and from interfering in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs.
The French chargé d'affaires noted that the appeal of Azerbaijan will be delivered accordingly,” the ministry said.
