CONFERENCE OF AZERBAIJANI SCHOLARS DEDICATED TO UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

A conference “Azerbaijani statehood on development ways. New stage of national revival” organized by the holding “Gorgud” and dedicated to the upcoming presidential elections, was held on September 27 in “Gulustan” palace.

Opening the conference, president of “Gorgud” Heydar Hasanoglu said that the presidential contenders had basically expressed their views by this time. Now, it is time to analyze them, to distinguish the good and the bad, lies from truth, white from black, windbag from creator. Many wish to become a president. Nevertheless, who is right? Who tells the truth? How to learn the specialist’s opinion based on true analysis? The only way is to ask from scholars-specialists. That is why; we organized this conference in association with the National Academy of Sciences. We are sure that scholars will show the way to Azerbaijani nation.

At the conference, presided by National Academy of Sciences (NAS) president Mahmud Karimov, using digital language academician Asaf Nadirov have brought economic success achieved for the last decade in Azerbaijan to participant’s notice. He noted that since 1995 the decline in economy had been got over, and since 1996 the period of intense development and economic growth had begun. For 1996-2002, all macroeconomic indexes have increased 2-3 times, currency reserves have reached $1 billion 300 million. For the last decade, the GDP production has increased 18,3 times (16.6 times per capita) bringing Azerbaijan to one of the leading places in CIS. By the way, this success has been achieved in the circumstances when occupied 20% territories was taken out of the turnover and majority of over million refugees and IDPs do not produce anything.

NAS corresponding member Karim Ramazanov, academician Bekir Nabiyev, director of the Institute of Philosophy and political legal researches Yusif Rustamov, Kolumbia University graduate Nihad Aliyev provided new facts in support to the aforementioned, told on strengthening of the statehood, succession in building the democratic state and expressed confidence that Azerbaijanis would make a right choice by choosing the worthy candidate.

On behalf of conference participants, an address to Azerbaijani people was approved.
