Coast Guard responding to oil spill in Santa Barbara, California

Baku, May 21, AZERTAC

A 24-inch (61-cm) pipeline belonging to Plains All American Pipeline LP ruptured and leaked several gallons of oil into the ocean off Santa Barbara County in California on Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The spill is 4 miles (6.4 km) in width and 50 yards (46 meters) into the water and initial estimate is that 20,000 gallons (76,000 liters) of oil spilled, a Coast Guard spokeswoman said.

The pipeline that leaked was abandoned and the leak has been stopped, Richard Abrams, emergency manager for Santa Barbara County said.

The Coast Guard, Department of Fish and Wildlife, Santa Barbara County and Plains All American were on the scene working on clean up, he added.
