EARTHQUAKE JOLTS GEORGIA
Earth tremors were felt at 20:18 and 21:58, Moscow time. The earthquake epicentre was located near the Chale settlement on the administrative border of the Tsalendzhikh and Mesti districts in the west of Georgia. This settlement is located 15 kilometres from the country's largest hydropower station - InguriGES generating about a half of the total electricity consumed in the country.
InguriGES was not damaged by the quake and is functioning normally, the stations’ officials said pointing out that the “InguriGES facilities can resist an earthquake with the magnitude of nine points.”
Tenants of multi-storeyed buildings in the Zugdidi city and Dzhvari settlement in the Tsalendzhikh district ran out to the street after the second wave of the quake and during several hours stayed outdoors fearing new tremors.
