According to the International Academy of Scientific Inventions of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the first discovery in Azerbaijan numbered 239 was made in Azerbaijan. Inventors are a group of outstanding Azerbaijani and Russian scholars - academician of the National Academy of Sciences, the late Mehdiyev Shafaet Farhad oglu, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Khain Viktor Yefimovich, doctor of physical-mathematical sciences, professor, academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Ismayilzade Tofig Ali oglu and doctor of geologic-mineralogical sciences, academician of the International Academy of Sciences Khalilov Elchin Nusrat oglu.

The discovery is called “Mechanism of the spatial-temporal distribution of volcano eruptions”

One of inventors - professor Tofig Ismayilzade representing all Azerbaijani inventors - left for Moscow to obtain diploma and inventor’s medals.

“For the last 10 years, we and other foreign scholars have gained new data verifying our discovery”, Elchin Khalilov said. “Recently, we have been informed that a discovery number 239 - the first officially recognized scientific discovery in the history of Azerbaijan - has been registered.

The medal will be bestowed upon NAS academician Shafaet Mehdiyev’s son, NAS vice-president, academician Arif Mehdiyev.

For almost a century, according to E. Khalilov, scholars tried to define the single mechanism of volcano activities. These efforts failed but we contrived to do that.

The discovery’s essence - it was the first time in the world an unknown mechanism of the spatial-temporal distribution of volcano eruptions has been determined. We managed to determine that volcanoes of the same geo-dynamics, situated 1000 km away from one another in various parts of the world, raise their activity in the same period. The discovery lies in the fact that volcano activity amplitude is directly proportional to the previous period of volcano activity recession.

I would like to stress that we have managed to prove aptitude and significance of this discovery due to the data obtained for the last decade. All it became possible thanks to attention of President Heydar Aliyev paid to domestic science”, the scholar said.
