Incoming U.S. ambassador arrives in Azerbaijan

The United States` new ambassador to Azerbaijan Earle Litzenberger has arrived in Baku.
In a brief talks with journalists at the airport, the ambassador said he is looking forward to starting his mission, familiarizing himself with Azerbaijan`s culture and deepening relations between the two countries and peoples.
Last December, the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations approved Litzenberger, a career member of the senior foreign service, as the country's next ambassador to Azerbaijan.
A senior advisor in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the Department of State, Litzenberger was nominated by President Donald Trump.
Litzenberger’s career in the foreign service spans more than 30 years, with his previous appointments including among others deputy chief of U.S. mission to NATO, and deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassies in Belgrade, Serbia, and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Robert Cekuta, previous U.S. ambassador in Baku, completed his tenure last March.
