Japan, China to Hold 2-Day Maritime Talks
Baku, September 14, AZERTAC
The Japanese and Chinese governments will hold the fifth round of working-level talks on maritime issues for two days from Wednesday, as agreed at a bilateral summit in China last week, according to Jiji Press.
The session is scheduled to be held in the western Japan city of Hiroshima and attended by relevant senior officials from the two governments.
Japan hopes for the swift launch of an airborne and seaborne communication mechanism to avoid unintended military clashes with China, which is having its ships repeatedly intrude into Japanese waters around the Senkaku Islands, at the center of bilateral tensions.
At the Hiroshima meeting, the two countries are also expected to discuss resuming negotiations on the joint development of gas fields in the East China Sea.
At a press conference in Beijing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the purpose of the meeting is to promote mutual understanding and trust.
