NEW ELECTION TO PARLIAMENT OF BAVARIA HELD
Prime Minister of Bavaria, DC Party leader Edmund Schtoiber at the recently held parliament elections garnered 61,2 percent of the votes. On preliminary calculations and prognoses, in the history of Germany for the first time the Democrats-Christians garnered two third of the votes, while their main opponents, garnering only 18,9 percent of votes, surpassed the CD Party and the ‘Red-Green’ bloc.
It is the third victory of the 61-year Edmund Schtoiber, who since 1993 rules the Land of Bavaria. After his success, he stated that in the forthcoming elections to Chancellor he would compete with the incumbent Premier Gerhard Schroeder, and called for unification of DC and CD for further struggle to win Bundestag.
