RIGA HOSTS CONFERENCE ON ROLE OF AZERI DIASPORA
Baku, May 26 (AZERTAC). Riga has hosted a conference on the role of diaspora in Azerbaijanis` integration into the Latvian society.
The conference was co-organized by Azerbaijan`s State Committee for Work with Diaspora and Latvia-Azerbaijan Cultural Center.
Opening the conference, the center`s chair, member of the council for national minorities under the Latvian president, Roman Aliyev and Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Latvia Tofig Zulfugarov stressed the importance of the conference.
Latvian MP Boris Tsilevich praised Azerbaijan`s economic and humanitarian development. He also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Tsilevich praised the activity of the Azerbaijani diaspora in discussions on the policy of European Union, noting “this could play a significant role in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.”
He stressed: “We have always supported Azerbaijan`s integration into Europe”.
MP Oskars Kastens emphasized the European Parliament`s May 20 resolution, described it as “an important step” in the Azerbaijan-EU cooperation.
He called Latvian representatives in EU to support Azerbaijan`s position.
Suraddin Humbatov, an official at the Azerbaijan State Committee for Work with Diaspora, highlighted the role of diaspora organizations in the process of integration.
