SCHREUDER AND FISCHER “DO NOT INTEND TO CONCEDE POWER”

Federal Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schreuder has officially stated on his intention to participate in Bundestag elections as a candidate for Chancellor. This statement was circulated during the meeting of the Social Democratic Party in Berlin on Monday, where Schreuder announced that he was destined to participate in the election in coalition with his reliable opponent Joschka Fischer.

Following Schreuder’s statement, Joschka Fischer also decided to partake in Bundestag elections in order to support the course of “red-green” coalition’s reforms.

Politicians, linked to the government, mentioned that European Union (EU) counted on Fischer as on real candidate to EU’s Foreign Minister position. His decision not to change his Berlin office to Brussels and to join Schreuder’s coalition at the upcoming elections of 2006 caused some difficulties for EU.
