UKRAINE-EU SUMMIT: STEPPING TOWARDS EACH OTHER
On September 14, Kiev hosted the «Ukraine-European Union» summit.
Ukraine, the President of the country Victor Yushchenko at joint press conference on results of the XI Summit has stated, is extremely satisfied with the level of cooperation with the European Union. At his words, during the Summit its participants have shown «a friendly atmosphere of negotiating process».
The president informed that during the summit signed were such base documents as the Joint Statement, the Joint Report on progress in negotiating process on drawing up of the new profound base agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, and also the joint report on progress in realization of the Memorandum between Ukraine and the European community about cooperation in power sphere.
The European Union intends to use the best efforts for deepening of the relations with Ukraine. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Arseny Yatsenyuk informed on it at briefing. At the same time, he emphasized, that Ukraine at the today’s summit did not put before itself the purpose to achieve from EU of precise date of the admission into the European Union. Thus, he noted, that one should follow only real purposes.
In turn, the Prime Minister of the country Victor Yanukovich considers unfair the refusals of the countries of the European Union in issue of visa to citizens of Ukraine. He noted that earlier he already did accent on this problem at the previous meetings with representatives of EU.
At the same time the Premier of Ukraine emphasized, that he is satisfied with development of relations between Ukraine and EU.
Chairman of European Commission Zhoze Manuel Barrozu emphasized necessity of the admission of Ukraine to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the near future. Therefore, he stated, we shall begin negotiations with creation of the Free Trade Zone between Ukraine and EU) right after how negotiations between Ukraine and WTO will be completed.
