UN SECRETARY GENERAL SENDS RETURN LETTER TO AZERBAIJAN FOREIGN MINISTER
The United Nation’s Secretary General Koffi Annan replied October 17, 2003 to the letter sent to him by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev on September 20, 2003 in connection with the violation of cease-fire regime by Armenian armed forces on Armenia-Azerbaijan border and in Nagorno Garabakh, and aggravation of the situation in the region.
Press-service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told AzerTaj that Koffi Annan stresses in the letter that in is opinion, the conflict taking place in Nagorno Garabakh region of the Azerbaijan Republic and can be settled by the way of political talks and compromises only.
He called on the parties not to violate the cease-fire regime established in 1994, to resume talks as soon as possible and continue cooperation with the OSCE Minsk Group and OSCE personal representative.
In the end of the letter, the Sectretary General expressed hope that on the base of the efforts by the Minsk Group and the parties’ resoluteness, a decisive progress in the problems’ settlement will become possible.
