USA TO ALLOT $10 MILLION FOR SECURITY OF AZERBAIJAN
Pointing out strengthening Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the U.S. after Waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, the Minister said that independent Azerbaijan is actively cooperating with European structures and NATO, and is taking efforts to deepen this relationships as it the people’s demand to guarantee security of the country.” He described the occupation of Azerbaijan’s territories as the country’s heaviest and most dangerous problem.
General-Colonel Safar Abiyev also updated the guests on economic situation in Azerbaijan, including TACIS program, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines, and added that the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict seriously threatens the projects’ security.
Having thanked for the meeting, retired General Charles Boyd noted the goal of the visit is to be acquainted with the region and situation in Azerbaijan, and let the Minister know that his organization cooperates with 130 countries including Azerbaijan.
The arties have held a comprehensive opinions exchange on ensuring security of the large-scale economic projects in Azerbaijan.
Mr. Boyd also stressed that during the visit he had witnessed Azerbaijan’s progress in many spheres and announced that the United State would soon allot $10 million to ensure security in Azerbaijan.
Minister of Defense General-Colonel Safar Abiyev answered the questions from the members of the U.S. delegation.
The meeting was attended by U.S. Ambassador toAzerbaijan Reno Harnish.
