US AMBASSADOR ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS OF JOURNALISTS
The US Ambassador especially underlined that his government is interested in fair, free and transparent Presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
“The name of the nominee to win at the elections on October 15 will be known only after publishing of official results. After that, all political forces should acknowledge a new president of the republic and be ready for the next elections”, Harnish said.
The US Ambassador reminded that over 600 monitors of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have already arrived in Azerbaijan and the number of local monitors exceeds 1000.
According to the Ambassador, technical and economic aid of the American government to Azerbaijan will continue after October 15.
Answering the question on correspondence of elections of representatives of the same family to the post of a President with democratic norms, Harnish said it was not surprising. He reminded that the acting President of the United States George Bush, as well as Ilham Aliyev, is the son of the former American President. “George Bush is not the only such precedent in history of the United States. That is why I was not surprised about election of a man, whose father was taking the posts of a state head”, Harnish added.
The US Ambassador expressed dissatisfaction with some newspaper articles, containing open call to a revolt. Concrete discontent with the results of the elections may be sounded only after publication of the results, Ambassador said. “The government which I represent is sure that nominees defeated at the Presidential elections of October 15, should acknowledge the results of voting and shake hands with legally elected President of Azerbaijan. USA will support that nominee, which will be supported by people of Azerbaijan”, said Rino Harnish.
