U.S. Independence Day marked in Baku

Embassy of the United States to Azerbaijan gave an official reception on the occasion of the United States Independence Day.
Addressing the participants, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta informed about the history of his country's independence. He recalled that, the Declaration of Independence was signed on July on July 4, 1776. “US has been supporting the development of democracy in Azerbaijan for already 25 years,” he added.
“This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the US.”
Cekuta said that on the Independence Day, the people of the US celebrate the triumph of democracy. However, the diplomat noted that democracy is not a complete process, it is constantly evolving, and this happens in every society.
Democracy is necessary for stability, prosperity and success, the ambassador said.
"The two countries have had 25 years of diplomatic relations. What is important for the US and I think for Azerbaijan -we are looking for the same thing - Azerbaijan as a strong, stable, prosperous, democratic and independent," he said.
Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov congratulated the American people on behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan. Speaking about the diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Minister told that, over the past few years in the bilateral relations developed in many areas. He praised the bilateral relations in the political, economic and humanitarian fields.
“Azerbaijan is the biggest trade partner of the US in the Southern Caucasus. The US supports transnational projects carried out in Azerbaijan,” he added.
The minister stressed that, there is close cooperation between Azerbaijan and US in global, regional security field and fight against terrorism.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the minister said this problem is one of the main causes that threats the regional security.
The event brought together state and governmental officials, MPs, representatives of foreign diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan.
