The National Joint Stock Company "Neftegas Ukrainy" has signed a contract for the purchase of 1 billion m3 of gas in Kazakhstan, said the CEO of the company Yuri Boiko. The agreement for the supply of gas was signed with one of the American companies.

With the aim of liquidating the deficit of natural gas, the Ukrainian government decided to buy up to 3.8 billion m3 of gas including 1.8 billion m3 from Kazakhstan and 2.0 billion m3 from Uzbekistan. Currently Neftegas Ukrainy is preparing the respective agreements.

In accordance with the balance of natural gas in Ukraine, from January to July 2003 a total of 40.2 billion m3 of natural gas was supplied to consumers, which is 5.7 billion m3 more than intended volumes of gas to be purchased.
