Baku, May 1, AZERTAC
The Baku Initiative Group was established in July 2023 on the sidelines of an international conference dedicated to the elimination of colonialism, said Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Group, during the international Youth Forum titled “Strengthening the Role of Youth in the Postcolonial Era,” held in Baku.
He noted that since its establishment, the Group has carried out consistent and systematic work, organizing more than 35 international events addressing the consequences of colonial and neocolonial policies, decolonization issues, and the protection of human rights, including the rights of indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities.
According to Abbasov, since 2024 the Group has continued its activities as a think tank. During this period, three books have been published and more than 40 analytical reports have been prepared and presented to the public. In addition, alternative reports have been submitted to international organizations and relevant bodies. The Group has also established cooperation with overseas territories affected by colonialism and expanded collaboration with more than 15 countries impacted by neocolonial policies.
He added that the Baku Initiative Group maintains close cooperation with international organizations, including the United Nations and its relevant bodies such as the Human Rights Council, the Human Rights Committee, the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, and the UN Youth Office. Cooperation has also been established with the Non-Aligned Movement.
Abbasov stated that the Group plans to further expand its activities in the fields of decolonization and human rights protection in the coming period.
