Located about 30 kilometers from downtown Baku, in the Surakhani district, the Ateshgah Temple State Historical and Architectural Reserve is considered one of the most unique monuments in Azerbaijan. In ancient times, this site served as a sacred place of worship for Zoroastrians. These worshippers, who believed that fire held mystical power, regarded the eternal flames as sacred and visited the site for religious rituals.
According to historical sources, the oldest building of the Ateshgah Temple dates back to 1713. In the 18th century, special cells for worship, a caravanserai for pilgrims, and other structures were added. The monument is notable not only for its religious significance but also for its architectural features.
Today, the Ateshgah Temple attracts visitors from across Azerbaijan and around the world. This monument, which embodies both historical and religious values, holds an important place in Azerbaijan's cultural heritage.
