Azerbaijan, Iran explore development of interparliamentary ties

On December 8, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with a delegation of Iran, led by Minister of Foreign Affars, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
The meeting underscored the importance of the visits of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan this year, other reciprocal visits and high-level meetings, as well as the documents signed in boosting the bilateral relations.
The officials noted that the enhancement of bilateral collaboration across political, economic, trade, transport, cultural, and humanitarian domains contributes significantly to strengthening relations between the two countries. They also stressed the importance of the Azerbaijan-Iran State Commission on economic, trade and humanitarian cooperation.
They also reviewed the cooperation between both countries’ legislative bodies. In this vein, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that her meetings held during her visit to Iran contributed positively to bilateral interparliamentary relations.
She also highlighted bilateral collaboration in the Interpaliamentary Union (IPU), the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN), the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO), stressing the importance of continuing these ties, and strengthening the role of the interparliamentary working groups.
Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi noted that Iran places great importance on developing relations with Azerbaijan, highlighting the existing close political dialogue between the two countries. He also shared his thoughts on meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Araghchi stressed the significance of boosting the relations between the two countries’ legislative authorities.
The meeting also addressed current state and prospects for development of bilateral interparliamentary relations.
