Azerbaijani and Russian foreign ministers discuss bilateral relations and regional issues

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow on July 17.
The ministers discussed the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–Russia relations, including economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as regional and international issues.
Sergey Lavrov congratulated Jeyhun Bayramov on Azerbaijan’s Diplomatic Service Day, marked on July 9, and wished him continued success in his work.
The Russian foreign minister noted that the talks at the ministerial level represent a continuation of the regular dialogue maintained between the two countries at the levels of presidents, governments, ministries, agencies, and parliaments.
“All this demonstrates that, despite the inevitable and periodically arising difficulties, we are moving toward fully realizing the potential of the Moscow Declaration on Allied Interaction, which we signed on February 22, 2022,” he said.
Lavrov noted that issues related to the aftermath of the AZAL passenger plane crash had been resolved this year thanks to agreements reached at the highest level, as well as the coordinated efforts of the governments and foreign ministries of both countries.
He also emphasized that the parties intended to discuss economic cooperation, recalling the 24th meeting of the Azerbaijan–Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held in April.
According to Lavrov, positive trends and promising prospects are also evident in cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
The Russian foreign minister said that the situation in the South Caucasus would also be discussed during the talks and highlighted the growing interest in the 3+3 regional consultative platform.
He added that the ministers would also exchange views on cooperation within the United Nations, the OSCE, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Jeyhun Bayramov thanked Sergey Lavrov for the invitation to visit Moscow and for the hospitality extended to the Azerbaijani delegation.
He noted that such contacts provide an important platform for comprehensive discussions on the full range of Azerbaijan–Russia relations.
The minister said the talks would include a broad review of economic and trade cooperation, highlighting the regular meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission as a key mechanism in this area.
“Despite all the challenges facing the global economy, the overall trend in relations between our countries remains positive,” he said.
Bayramov also noted that the parties would review the results of bilateral cooperation in 2025 and discuss priority areas for further collaboration in the near future.
He described the humanitarian sphere as a traditionally important pillar of Azerbaijan–Russia relations.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister also reaffirmed the readiness of both countries to discuss all regional and international issues of mutual interest, including cooperation within international organizations.
