Azerbaijani sabreuse wins bronze medal at world cup

Palina Kaspiarovich, a member of the Azerbaijani women's national sabre team, has won a bronze medal at the World Cup held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
The athlete, who finished the group stage with five victories, secured the bronze medal by advancing to the semifinals in the individual women's sabre competition.
In the knockout stages, Kaspiarovich defeated Uzbekistan’s Samira Shokirova (15:6), Venezuelan sabreuse Katherine Paredes Torres (15:11), Ukrainian Alina Komashchuk (15:14), and Spain’s Araceli Navarro (15:13) to reach the top eight. In the quarterfinal match to secure a spot in the semifinals, she overcame Anastasia Shorokhova, competing under a neutral status, with a score of 15:10. Kaspiarovich eventually lost her semifinal match to Bulgarian fencer Yoana Ilieva with a score of 6:15.
Anna Bashta, competing in an international tournament for the first time following a long-term injury, stopped her progression in the main stage. Sabina Karimova and Zarifa Huseynova concluded their performances in the preliminary knockout rounds.
Tomorrow, the Azerbaijani women's sabre team will face the USA squad in a match to determine which team advances to the top eight in the team competition.
