Azerbaijan`s Prosecutor General meets chairman of PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights
Baku, September 2 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov has met today with visiting chairman of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights Christos Pourgourides and committee`s member Elsa Papadimitriou.
Garalov stressed integration to Europe is a key priority of the official Baku`s foreign policy and hailed dynamic development of the PACE-Azerbaijan cooperation.
He also spoke of progressive legislative acts signed by President Ilham Aliyev to modernize of judicial system in the country, creation of regulatory and legal framework for the prosecutor`s activity, application of modern information technologies at prosecution bodies, recruitment of young experts and measures undertaken to ensure citizens` rights and freedoms.
Touching upon the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Garalov stressed the necessity of unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani lands, and highlighted the importance for the increase of PACE efforts in this field.
Christos Pourgourides hailed PACE-Azerbaijan cooperation and democratic processes in the country.
Christos Pourgourides stressed he backs the fair settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
