Baku, November 30, AZERTAC
A conference “Role of media in strengthening Islamic solidarity” has been held in Baku. It was co-organized by the Journalists Association of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states and International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF).
Addressing the participants, chairman of the Journalists Association of the OIC member states Fazil Guney and chairman of the IEPF Umud Mirzayev described the Azerbaijani President`s declaring 2017 as a Year of Islamic Solidarity as a historical event. They hailed the fact that representatives of various religions co-exist in peace in Azerbaijan.
Employee of the public and political affairs department at the Presidential Administration Bahruz Hasanov said that Islam is a religion of peace and mercy. “Azerbaijan is one of those countries, which suffer from terror. Twenty per cent of Azerbaijani lands was occupied by Armenian armed forces and historical, religious and cultural monuments were completely destroyed there,” Hasanov said.
“Azerbaijan enjoys great influence in the Islamic world. Azerbaijan is one of those countries, which attaches great importance to the Islamic values. The aim of the executive order signed by the head of state Ilham Aliyev to declare 2017 as a year of the Islamic Solidarity was not only reinforcing the dialogue between the religions in Azerbaijan, but also strengthening solidarity among the Islamic countries. The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku also contributed to reinforcing dialogue among the Islamic countries,” Hasanov added.
