Baku hosts “Neocolonialism and Global Inequality” international conference VIDEO
Baku, February 19, AZERTAC
An international conference on “Neocolonialism and Global Inequality”, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), commenced in Baku.
For the first time, the event gathers anthropologists and psychotherapists working directly with indigenous communities affected by neocolonialism, experts involved in creating a Virtual Museum dedicated to colonialism, leaders of independence movements from affected regions, and researchers specializing in neocolonialism.
The conference will explore the traumatic and social experiences of people subjected to colonization across diverse cultural and social contexts. The discussions will also focus on structural issues arising from the historical actions of colonial powers, existing cases of inequality, and improving access to information for documenting, analyzing, and presenting these experiences on an international stage.
The discussions will cover the documentation of personal life stories and the dissemination of such materials on international platforms, particularly the traumatic effects and psychological consequences created by colonialism among peoples living under oppression, will be considered as objects of scientific research.
The event will also revolve around discussions on the integration of digital and scientific platforms with the relevant virtual systems of international organizations, ensuring accessibility for international research groups, experts, and judicial materials that study colonialism.
The conference has a historical significance. For the first time, anthropologists and psychotherapists have worked directly with local populations affected by colonial oppression, conducting individual and group interviews, assessing traumatic experiences, documenting life stories, and systematically recording the social, cultural, and psychological impacts. The collected materials serve as a reliable and transparent source of information that can be referenced by rapporteurs, experts, and courts collaborating with international organizations.
