Budapest hosts event marking anniversary of January 20 tragedy
Budapest, January 20, AZERTAC
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Hungary organized a commemorative event marking the 36th anniversary of the 20 January tragedy.
Representatives of the Azerbaijan House in Hungary, the Azerbaijan-Hungarian Alumni Union, as well as members of the Azerbaijani diaspora attended the event.
Participants laid flowers in front of the memorial corner set up in honor of the victims of the tragedy, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the Azerbaijani martyrs.
Addressing the event, Tahir Taghizade, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Hungary noted that the January 20 tragedy etched in the history of the Azerbaijani people not only as a tragedy but also a glorious page, becoming a symbol of the struggle for the country’s independence and freedom.
The diplomat also highlighted National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s exceptional services in bringing the January 20 tragedy to the attention of the world community and in giving a political and legal assessment to this tragedy.
Ambassador Tahir Taghizade also touched upon the Victory of the brave Azerbaijani Army achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, describing this Victory as a celebration of the ideals fought for by the Azerbaijani heroes who sacrificed their lives for their Motherland.
