CE MISSION TO AZERBAIJAN ENDED
/ PACE/ Andreas Gross on the results of a two-day visit to Azerbaijan was held in Baku, in the Hyatt Regency hotel, on September 16.
In his opening speech, Andreas Gross stated that the aim of the committee is to observe the upcoming Presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
A. Gross stated that in the course of the visit, the delegation had an opportunity to meet with several top-ranking officials of the country, as well as leaders of opposition and NGOs.
According to PACE Committee head, leadership of the republic carries out work related to democratic situation at the Presidential elections, and legislation of Azerbaijan was improved to meet the European standards.
Mr. Gross noted that he requested the leaders of the Central Election Committee of Azerbaijan to publish the register of voters, as well as right away the elections, not in 48 hours as required by the Electoral Code to make the results of voting public. Due to these actions, no one of Presidential contenders will be able to make statement on breaking of law.
