Digitalization of Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure highlighted at WUF13
Baku, May 20, AZERTAC
An event “Digital Management Architecture of the Azerbaijan’s Power System” as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku featured discussions highlighting strategic challenges in the sustainability of energy systems, digitalization, renewable energy integration, and urban infrastructure development.
The leadership of Azerenerji OJSC and Azerishig OJSC provided insight into reforms in Azerbaijan's energy sector and future development priorities.
Deputy Chairman of the Board of Azerenergy OJSC Rustam Gasimov stated that Azerbaijan aims to integrate approximately 2 gigawatts of renewable energy into its power grid by 2028. According to him, balancing hydropower with traditional generation is a priority in this regard.
Araz Mammadzade, representative of "Azerishig" OJSC, stressed that Garabagh and East Zangezur regions play the role of a "real laboratory" in terms of using the modern energy models and "smart" villages, green energy zones.
The speakers noted that solar panels installed on substations produce clean energy for local consumption. Through digitalization, energy management has been completely automated, with paperless systems now in place – an approach that strengthens transparency while boosting efficiency.
According to them, sustainable urbanization can only be built upon modern, “smart,” and uninterrupted energy infrastructure, and Azerbaijan’s energy sector continues to advance along a development path aligned with global standards.
