EU funded project for modernising vocational education assesses current situation of VET providers in regions of Azerbaijan

In August 2020, the European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan signed a new project worth 11.4 million manats to strengthen the quality of the vocational education system (VET) in Azerbaijan and to improve its image and attractiveness among young people.
As part of this four-year project, a first visit was organised to the VET centers in Shaki and Ganja to conduct an initial situation analysis and map current challenges and opportunities.
Discussions were held about possibilities to establish new workshops, career centres and learning factories, also dual degree programmes and digital innovations in local VET schools.
The “VET for the Future: Development of VET Providers’ Excellence in Azerbaijan” project is funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the State Agency on Vocational Education. Its main objective is to help modernize VET institutions in Azerbaijan, to deliver competence-based training that is tailored to the current needs of the labour market.
