In order to identify persons illegally visiting European Union countries, EU’s International Police Organization has swooped on frontier posts. For two weeks, thousands of buses, 11552 cars from Central and Eastern Europe and 16000 passengers were examined at borders of Germany, Austria and Italy. 416 people were registered as suspects and sent back, while 308 people were arrested as transnational culprits. In his statement to the press Interior Minister of Germany Otto Shilli noted that “Semper Virgilia” operations carried out by the frontiers of France, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Romania and Germany ascertained that fact that most busses plying across Europe convey illegal travelers. “The European Union can not be indifferent to this dangerous situation”, the Minister said. He stressed the necessity to take harsh measures against this measures and establishment of the European International Frontier Police.
