Baku to host international badminton tournament

The Azerbaijan Junior Open 2026 international badminton tournament will be held in Baku from August 14 to 16.
According to the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, the tournament will feature athletes from Türkiye, the United States, Iran, India, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Georgia, alongside Azerbaijani players. The matches will be held at the Badminton Hall in Baku.
The tournament has a total prize fund of US$5,000, equivalent to approximately AZN 8,500.
Azerbaijan will be represented by 22 junior badminton players — 13 girls and 9 boys — under the guidance of head coach Morteza Validarvi.
Competitions in five categories will begin at 09:00 on August 14, with the tournament concluding with the final matches on August 16.
The tournament's chief referee will be Greek official Christos Evangelidis.
The Azerbaijan Junior Open 2026 is the first international badminton tournament to be held in Azerbaijan under the Junior International Series category.
The tournament aims to provide young badminton players with international competitive experience, support their professional development, and strengthen the competitive environment among junior athletes.
