Shavkat Mirziyoyev calls on CICA to foster mutual trust across Asia
Baku, October 15, AZERTAC
“Under President Ilham Aliyev’s successful leadership, Azerbaijan continues to develop dynamically and gain greater international recognition,” President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his address at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in Baku.
The Uzbek President stressed that the world is undergoing major changes, with emerging problems and challenges requiring collective action and cooperation. He emphasized that the growing number of armed conflicts worldwide, including in various parts of Asia, poses a threat to regional security, harms the global economy and negatively affects millions of lives.
“Our position remains unchanged: all conflicts and disputes must be settled peacefully through political and diplomatic means, in line with international law and taking into account the interests of all parties,” he added.
Stressing that the erosion of dialogue heightens risks and can lead to poor decisions, he said: “We must prevent political differences from turning into armed confrontations. The organization has an important role to play in this regard, and one of its main objectives should be to foster mutual trust across Asia.”
