Baku, October 14, AZERTAC
During the official visit to Azerbaijan, a Cambodian delegation led by Prime Minister Hun Manet visited the Milli Majlis on October 14.
The Prime Minister first visited the parliament’s plenary hall. The delegation then visited the memorial hall dedicated to National Leader Heydar Aliyev, where its members viewed exhibits reflecting different periods of his life and political career. Hun Manet also signed a guest book.
A meeting was subsequently held between the Cambodian delegation and Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova.
Gafarova said the visit reflected the high level of relations between Azerbaijan and Cambodia. She noted that Hun Manet’s participation in the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) demonstrated Cambodia’s commitment to dialogue and the promotion of regional peace and security.
The sides highlighted the important role of high-level meetings in developing bilateral relations. In this context, they discussed Hun Manet’s meeting with President Ilham Aliyev two days earlier, as well as the discussions held and documents signed.
They expressed satisfaction with the mutual support Azerbaijan and Cambodia provide each other within the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, CICA and other international organizations, as well as with their effective cooperation.
The sides discussed prospects for expanding interparliamentary relations, noting the important role of cooperation between legislative bodies in strengthening bilateral ties. They also highlighted close cooperation between the two parliaments within major parliamentary platforms, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.
The meeting also addressed political ties between the two countries, including cooperation between Azerbaijan’s ruling New Azerbaijan Party and the Cambodian People’s Party.
Hun Manet expressed his pleasure at visiting Azerbaijan and shared his impressions of his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev two days earlier. He said the meeting had provided an opportunity for a fruitful exchange of views on developing bilateral relations in various fields.
The Prime Minister also spoke about other meetings held during his visit, noting that productive discussions had been held on economic cooperation, education, the defence industry, trade, tourism and expanding people-to-people contacts.
Highlighting the importance of humanitarian ties, Hun Manet noted that hundreds of Cambodian young people had graduated from higher education institutions in Azerbaijan during the Soviet period and said this tradition continued today.
The sides noted that, despite the geographical distance between the two countries, their positive political dialogue created favourable conditions for expanding cooperation in various fields.
