The village of Damirchi in Shamakhi is not only a historical site, but also a place that brings peace to the mind and brings memories to life. Every stone and every street of the village, nestled at the foot of the mountain, seems to tell a story about the past.
The history of the Damirchi village, one of the oldest villages in Shamakhi, stretches back to the 15th century. Once known as Guneychay, the village is now called Damirhci because of the widespread practice of blacksmithing there.
Located on the ancient Silk Road, the village boasted several caravanserais. However, most of the ancient constructions in the village, including the caravanserais, were destroyed during the Soviet era.
The locals, boasting unique customs traditions, and unique culture, show great interest in science and education. The efforts carried out in recent years to restore the monuments in Damirchi and preserve its historical image is of great importance in terms of safeguarding the village and passing its legacy to future generations.
During the recent years, the complex restoration works were carried out in the village. Firstly, the mosque, one of the village’s oldest religious places built in 755, has been restored. Secondly, a number of exciting projects have been implemented in the village to ensure the recreation of local residents and tourists.
The central part of the village features such tourism infrastructure as a blacksmith and coppersmith workshop, a cafe, a teahouse, a tandoor, a corner of "Azerkhalcha" OJSC, a souvenir shop and "ABAD" shops, a fortress and a spring complex.
Located 1500 meters above the sea level, the village has a pleasant climate with mild winters and cool summers.
The newly constructed roads brings the village closer to the residential settlements. The tourists heading to Lahij- Azerbaijan’s famous tourist destination - can take a breath in the village and continue their journey.
