As part of a new column, AZERTAC continues to publish information about fascinating but little-known sights in Baku and its surroundings. This time we are heading to the Rzabek Alibayov mansion – a unique architectural monument that has amazingly preserved the spirit of its time.
Located at the intersection of Suleyman Taghizada and Rza Guliyev streets, this architectural gem belonged to Rzabek Alibayov, a representative of a noble family.
While studying in St. Petersburg, Alibayov met architect Nikolay Dmitrievich Prokofyev and entrusted him with the design of his personal mansion in Baku. So in 1903, a three-story building in a classical style was built.
The Baku limestone used in the construction of the mansion is particularly noteworthy – this stone was used not only as a building material, but also as a decorative element.
However, the main attraction of the building is its interior – a spacious entrance hall decorated with patterned ceilings, souvenirs and frescoes that have retained their beauty over the years.
There is also an interesting theory: Alibayov, who was married to a woman from the lineage of the Lankaran Khan, allegedly had the same mansion built in Lankaran as in Baku...
