Baku, May 17, AZERTAC
"Japan consistently pursues policies for inclusive housing provision and sustainable urban growth in line with the principles of the New Urban Agenda. Alongside the accelerating pace of urbanization in recent years, the world has faced severe challenges, including climate change, natural disasters, and security risks. Despite these issues, Japan has continued its efforts toward creating a safe and inclusive living environment," Hideyuki Shiomi, Advisor to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, during his speech within the framework of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
Hideyuki Shiomi stated that measures are being implemented in Japan to expand access to housing and strengthen social support mechanisms for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable population groups.
Furthermore, he noted that in order to enhance resilience against increasingly frequent natural disasters in recent years, Japan is actively working on upgrading infrastructure and expanding protective measures against flood and earthquake risks.
The Japanese official added that the country continues its cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to promote sustainable urban and regional development, as well as to strengthen international collaboration in the field of urban planning.
