From AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” series: Laza village — A land of waterfalls
Laza village in the Gusar district, renowned for its spectacular natural landscapes, is a popular destination for tourists. Located in the northeast of the Caucasus Mountains and nestled at the foot of the Shahdagh mountain peak, the village is often referred to as Azerbaijan’s "land of waterfalls."
Laza is home to more than 10 mountain waterfalls, which serve as major attractions for both local and international tourists. Situated in a valley at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, the village offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere.
This year, Laza welcomed a large influx of tourists from Gulf countries, Pakistan, and India.
During winter, most of the waterfalls freeze, creating a mystical natural landscape. The snowy and frosty weather in the village typically lasts for about seven months, allowing the area to host both international and local ice climbing competitions on the frozen waterfalls.
Laza is a small village with just 30 houses and a population of around 200 people. The primary occupation of the residents is animal husbandry. In recent years, however, tourism has become an important source of income. The village has also preserved its ancient tradition of carpet weaving, adding cultural richness to its natural beauty.
