The next feature in AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column focuses on the National Flag Square in Baku.
Located in the Bayil settlement of Baku, the National Flag Square is a formidable complex embodying a memorial and a recreation park, as well as the symbols of Azerbaijani statehood. The inauguration of the square took place on September 1, 2010.
Following the extensive restoration in 2024, a new flagpole was installed. The flag hoisted at the National Flag Square is 40 meters in width and 80 meters in length. The height of the flagpole is 201 meters, and the diameter of the pole on the pedestal is 5.7 meters. The flag was confirmed by the Guinness World Records as largest in world.
The renovated National Flag Square was reopened on Azerbaijan’s Victory Day - November 8, 2024. One can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the square in nocturnal lights.
The National Flag Museum is one of the most exciting parts of the complex. The museum displays the National Flag of Azerbaijan, along with flags and emblems existed in the country at different times, as well as other rare exponents. The visiting tourists can learn about the evolution of the country's national symbols, familiarizing themselves with interactive information.
