Pakistan and Myanmar pledge to deepen multi-sectoral cooperation

Pakistan and Myanmar have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting multi-sectoral cooperation to further strengthen their bilateral relationship. The visiting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Than Swe, held productive and comprehensive discussions with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, in Islamabad on Monday.
Deputy Prime Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Than Swe led their respective delegations in high-level talks. Both sides reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and reiterated their resolve to expand cooperation across diverse sectors, including religious tourism, people-to-people contacts, and cultural exchanges, with the aim of promoting shared prosperity.
They also exchanged views on regional and international peace and security and agreed to remain in close contact on matters of mutual interest.
Earlier, the Myanmar Foreign Minister, who is on a four-day official visit to Pakistan, was warmly received by Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Addressing a joint press conference following the talks, the Deputy Prime Minister described the discussions as highly productive and comprehensive. He stated that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Myanmar and deeply values the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit, the Foreign Minister of Myanmar and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Foreign Offices of Pakistan and Myanmar. This institutional mechanism will facilitate regular engagement and sustained dialogue on bilateral, regional, and international issues.
