Islamabad, Hilal Ahmad, November 18, AZERTAC
Pakistan and Bangladesh have signed a landmark agreement to streamline the movement of air cargo between the two countries, and Saudi Arabia will serve as a transit gateway for air cargo movement between the two countries from next month.
Pakistan’s National carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) inked a historical agreement with the Bangladeshi carrier Biman Airlines to ease the movement of air cargo. Under the agreement, Saudi Arabian cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Medina will serve as transit gateways for air cargo movement between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
According to a statement by Pakistan International Airlines, the PIA will activate a new cargo arrangement with Bangladesh’s Biman Airlines from December 1. Under the agreement, air freight between the two countries will move via Saudi Arabia. The signed agreement would cut handling hurdles and support smoother movement of textiles, pharmaceuticals and agricultural goods between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
According to the Pakistan International Airlines, the combined networks of both national carriers would offer more efficient and cost-effective cargo options for exporters. Under the agreement, the major Saudi cities of Jeddah, Medina and Riyadh would be used as transit gateways. Through the extensive networks of the national airlines of Pakistan and Bangladesh, quality and cost-effective cargo solutions will be provided.
