Islamabad, Hilal Ahmad, November 20, AZERTAC
Pakistan has yet again extended its airspace ban on Indian Aircrafts till December 23. According to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the ban applies to all Indian registered, owned, operated or leased aircrafts including commercial and military flights.
In this regard, PAA has issued a fresh NOTAM that maintains restrictions on Indian aircrafts first imposed by the Pakistani authorities on April 23 this year.
According to the NOTAM all Indian aircrafts will remain prohibited from entering Pakistani airspace for the duration of the extended period. The restrictions imposed by Pakistan has forced Indian airlines to operate longer alternate routes, resulting in losses of millions of dollars due to increased fuel consumption and operational delays.
According to the media reports, many Indian airlines particularly the Air India has seeked Chinese route as alternate to cope with the rising costs due to long routes as Pakistan has restricted its airspace for Indian planes.
As per reports, Air India which is the only Indian commercial airline with vast international route network is facing hardships to run its operation by the rising fuel costs due to Pakistani restrictions. This situation has increased the fuel cost upto 29% and flight time by up to three hours on many long routes.
