Pakistan strongly condemns Washington shooting involving Afghan national
Islamabad, November 28, AZERTAC
Pakistan has strongly condemned the shooting incident in Washington, D.C., reportedly involving an Afghan national. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the targeted attack constitutes an act of terrorism and a heinous assault on U.S. soil. Pakistan highlighted that, over the past two decades, it has endured numerous similar terrorist incidents with clear links to Afghanistan. The Ministry stressed that this incident underscores the ongoing challenges of transnational terrorism and the urgent need for strengthened global cooperation to counter this threat.
The Ministry’s spokesperson expressed condolences to the family of the deceased National Guard member, wished a swift and full recovery to the injured, and extended sympathies to the families affected, as well as to the Government and people of the United States.
The statement emphasized that the incident marks a troubling resurgence of terrorism worldwide and called on the international community to reinvigorate collective counter-terrorism efforts. Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to working with the United States and the wider international community to address shared security challenges.
According to reports from Washington, one National Guard member was killed and another remains critically injured following an ambush near the White House earlier this week. The suspect, identified as an Afghan national, is claimed by U.S. officials to have entered the United States in 2021 under a program initiated by the Biden administration after the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
U.S. media reports indicate that Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the suspect, previously served in a paramilitary unit cooperating with U.S. forces and was among the Afghans who relocated to the United States following the Taliban takeover.
