PLENARY SESSION OF THE WORLD CONGRESS OF RUSSIAN PRESS
Opening the session, President of the World Association of Russian Press, Director General of ITAR-TASS Vitaly Ignatenko expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani party for high level of organization of the congress’ work. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Eleonora Mitrofanova pointed out that the Association has celebrated its 5th anniversary this year and a lot of work has been done for this period. Today, Russian Diaspora is the second in the world after the Chinese.
The Russian state pays a special attention to work with its compatriots.
One of the main directions of activities of the association is preservation and multiplying of cultural heritage of Russia. Speaking on the activities of the Foreign Ministry of Russia in this field, she pointed out that the state has allocated this year $7 million for work with compatriots passed special programs. The World Association of Russian Press plays its role in work with Diaspora. Russian Press, first of all, should inform its readers just and operatively on public and political events taking place in Russia.
Minister of Moscow government Alexander Muzikantski voiced the address of the Mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov to participants of the congress.
The participants of the session discussed urgent issues of expansions of Russian press role in the world, coordination of activities of journalist staff of different countries. It was underlined that because of lack of attention towards problems of their correspondents, working in the former USSR republics, Russia is loosing informational space.
The issue of working on probation and educational seminars for young journalists from CIS and abroad was discussed at the second plenary session of the 5th World Congress of Russian Press.
Participants of the Congress underlined the importance of training professional staff for Russian mass media; It was deiced to hold seminars for young journalists of Russian mass media in Moscow and one of the regions of the Russian Federation on the basis of the telegraph news agency of Russia ITAR-TASS, journalistic faculty of the Moscow State University and Russian TV and Radio Academy.
President of the World Association of Russian Press, Vitaly Ignatenko pointed out that the representatives of all Russian mass media will be informed on date and place of seminars to be held.
“All expenses after arrival to seminar to Moscow will be covered by ITAR-TASS. At the same time, young journalists will be given an opportunity of three -week work on probation on best TV channels and printed organs of Russia”, he said.
In conclusion, participants of the session expressed gratitude for organizers of the function and, first of all, to the initiator of holding the World Congress in Baku, President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.
